What is the Sustainable Sourcing Verification Program?

The SURE (Sustainable Resources Verification Scheme) verification scheme has been developed in line with the requirements of the EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) for solid and gaseous biofuel supply chains.

RED II is the EU directive that replaced RED I (2009/28/EC), which established regulations for the sustainable and climate-friendly production of biofuels and bioliquids. Since its implementation, comprehensive supply chains comprising producers, processors, and consumers have been established and networked worldwide.

Who Needs SURE Verification?

  • agricultural raw materials and agricultural waste and residues
  • forestry production and forestry wastes and residues
  • biogenic waste and residues

    producers or sources
  • energy crops, straw, fertilizer
  • This applies to companies operating in the field of crop residue, sawdust, wood chips, wood pellets, and wood briquettes.
